Leadership Philosophy

I believe the learning of every student should be at the center of what we do in education. To achieve this requires consideration of equal access to learning for all students. My leadership, grounded in an overriding principle of human and community potential and the values of inclusion and social justice, is motivated by a vision of an education system that benefits and celebrates all students equally. My work and research reveal not only the barriers but also the lack of enablers that currently exist to achieving this, particularly for students with developmental and intellectual disabilities. 


Foundational to my leadership believes is a drive to uncover and address ableism in education. The conceptual framework I subscribe to is Disability Studies in Education (DSE). 


Inclusive and adaptive leadership theories reflect the beliefs and strategic actions that I feel would serve to build the needed collective power to move toward a long-term goal of changing practices, structures, policies, and thinking to facilitate equitable access to learning for all students.
